CoinScan Privacy Policy
Last updated 5 September 2026
CoinScan identifies coins from a photograph, estimates what they are worth and keeps your collection. This page describes what data the app collects and what happens to it.
What stays on your device
Your collection, the coin catalogue, the price data, your scan history and the photographs you take are stored on the phone only. Search and value calculations run locally, which is why they work without an internet connection.
What goes to the server
- Coin photographs, during recognition. The frame is sent to Anthropic, which describes the coin. The image lives in process memory for the length of the request and is never written to disk or storage.
- Account details, if you create an account: email address, name and a password hash. The password itself is never stored.
- Device information: an installation identifier, platform, app version and model. Used to count the daily scan limit and to tell sessions apart.
- A backup of your collection, if you turn it on: coins, sets, grades, purchase prices and notes. Your own photographs are not included in the backup.
- Reports of a wrong identification, if you tap “this is not the right coin”.
What the app does not do
- Does not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising
- Does not track you across other apps or websites
- Does not collect your location, contacts or list of installed apps
- Does not store your photographs on the server
Who receives data
Anthropic — coin photographs, for recognition. Railway — hosting for the server and the database. Both process the data on our instructions.
How long data is kept
Account details and the collection backup are kept while the account exists. Scan counters are kept for 30 days. Photographs are not kept at all.
Your rights
You can delete your account together with all associated data: in the app under Settings → Account → Delete account, or through this page.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
